From Ocean Shores to Home Grounds – A Winter & Spring Journey

I've been reflecting on my winter activities and the rhythm I linked into, it was a full tide! I wrapped up my winter delivery of the Sea To Studio series at Core Pilates and Mind. When I stepped out independently as Wave Wellness, I left the door open, which resulted in this series being delivered. It highlighted to me the importance of keeping connections alive and supporting each other in our respective niches.
7 weeks of restorative Sunday evening classes unfurled at Core with themes from "finding your shoreline" to "the ebb and flow". It was wonderful to connect with former clients, they all really enjoyed the series. On the last session, I was asked when I would return? I'm pleased to announce that I'm starting back up again for a Spring series this coming Sunday!
I also successfully gathered my stand together for another Sol Gatherings event back in August to reconnect in with the community and foster new connections. I enjoy the energy of those events, each one is a little different, I also enjoy getting my flowers arranged, they always bring a nice dose of cheer to the room. At that event, I was also busy promoting a joint workshop that I ran with Ranee Hearst from Balsam Natural Health.

We facilitated an evening workshop for 20 women, 'Strong, Energised and Well'. It was such an enjoyable event to help empower women with knowledge and to realise their own internal wisdom when exploring the pillars of health. We enjoyed hearing lots of useful nutritional tips from Ranee and I got everyone moving with some breath and movement snacks!
Over the winter period, I also launched my online store, Wave Store and have gradually been adding product lines. This has been a fun exploration and I've done a couple of local collaborations with Cathie and Down by the Sea and Hilary at Well Handled Ceramics. It's been rewarding to work with other local businesses.

I also returned to the UK in June, for a fleeting visit, just 2 weeks and it was a tough time on my body. Adjusting to the time zone change and arriving in 35 degree heatwave conditions was challenging. Nevertheless, not to complain about the weather, it was a time to connect back with my parents and spend some quality time with them and I cherished that time.
Whilst away, I found my home away from home with the local yoga studio, Whitstable Yoga & Wellbeing Centre so I was well catered for. It was nice to see a few familiar faces in classes from previous years.

Each time I return back to the UK, I feel less and less like I belong there as such. Having lived in New Zealand for nearly 17 years, I've changed, it's a fascinating process when you emigrate and the ups and downs, feelings you have throughout the phases, perhaps that's a journal reflection on its own one day.
I did step out of my comfort zone and was daring with a Wing Walk! I absolutely loved it. It's something I had looked at doing for a long time, it was exhilarating and absolutely so much fun. The realisation of "I'm strapped onto the wing of an aircraft" as I was taxiing to take off was something else! A huge smile, thrill and adrenaline plus a little bit of "what am I doing here?". Great fun. I used my breath to anchor myself in calm assurance and stability at my core whilst enjoying the flight.

I recently had the privilege of teaching a Surge & Soar, Power Vinyasa Class as one of the opening classes of the Hawke's Bay Yoga Festival. A class of 36 people in a room overlooking the sea to launch their festival experience, I very much enjoyed the opportunity.
I'm usually of a boutique teaching set-up with my small classes; however, for events and the alike...expansion is great to explore. It was important to guide the group as one in a collective energy sense and in continuous rhythm. I was in tine and connected with the group.

Continual knowledge is a huge thing for me too. I completed an Ayurvedic face massage workshop with the amazingly talented Ushma Shah. I am now pleased to offer these treatments as add ons to personal tide sessions and retreat experiences.
I have also been upskilling my knowledge with some additional Yin yoga training and Yoga for Menopause and beyond. This is a 40hr course I am self paced learning through Niamh Daly, of Yinstinct, based in Ireland. I've been thoroughly enjoying it, it's great knowledge base for me to have personally nd to incorporate into my yoga sessions.
Coming up, spring is emerging and will be in full blossom. I've got lots on the horizon:
Power Over Prostate (11 September): A 75 minute Power Vinyasa charity fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ. Tackle it in Blue. I'm co-leading this event again with Hamish Kenworthy.
Pathways of Possibility Retreat in Abel Tasman (17-21 Sep): I'm a co-host on this retreat with Hamish Kenworthy, I'm very excited about this retreat, it's going to be hard work in terms of keeping the energy going and responding to the group; however, I'm ready for it and it'll be both an experience of growth and restoration for the participants (and me!).
Mental Health Awareness Week (12–18 October): I have 2 free online classes planned and I'm opening up Shore Studio (on-demand) for free for people for a month to explore it.
Salt & Soul: Spring Retreat: Emergence & Anchor (16-18 Oct): I'll be guiding a retreat in Little Akaloa for up to 6 women, this will be a boutique and very nourishing retreat, I can't wait for this special one. I still have a few spaces remaining - so, if you;ve been thinking about it...book in!
Thanks for your ongoing support, it means so much to me.
See you on the mat,
Lucy
