The Same Curious Spirit: From Stabilisers to Acceleration

The curiosity to climb, to reach the edge, and to find a new perspective hasn’t changed much over the years! I'm a born adventurer - my parents couldn't quell my energy and of course they didn't want to.
When I look at this photo, I love my rolled up trouser legs, bare feet ready for the sand and my small red toy camera in my hand. It was one of those ones that you click the viewfinder and an image appeared from a picture disc that manually clicked inside the plastic body of the camera. Perhaps that's where my love of photography and perspective was lit. It also reminds me of how simple my childhood was, in many ways, compared to the plethora of technology around now.
Back then, it was just a tree by the sea. Today, my "tree" is the Wave Wellness brand, a different kind of climb, but one that requires the same sense of wonder, resilience, and willingness to test my balance.
February was another time of "firsts." It was a whirlwind, a massive cram session of growth, and the ultimate test. As I sit here on the final day of the month, I’m happy, I’m smiling, and to be honest, I’m absolutely brimming.
Looking back, I can see my growth unfolding in 3 natural stages, much like a tree taking root and reaching for the light.
Rooting Down: The Foundation

I started the month by handing in my notice to deliver my last classes in February at Core Pilates and Mind. This was a tough notice to write as I enjoyed teaching there and the clients were great. It was a move to ensure I wasn't spreading myself too thinly and to turn my focus and energies all towards Wave Wellness.
When it came to it, my last class was a very fitting restore Yin yoga class. It was a beautiful, slightly teary-eyed goodbye that reminded me how important it is to acknowledge where we’ve been. I've learnt a lot whilst teaching in the Core studio and I'm grateful for the opportunities it presented.
Whilst still teaching at Core, I made the decision to launch my first in-person small group Wave Wellness classes at the No 1 Beach Hut. The timing was right, the Village Green had just opened so I jumped right in. Teaching 8 classes a week on top of my full-time job was a big ask, part of why February was a squeeze month for me! The time to plan and turning up with energy to teach at each class and show up for the community is a big ask at times, it can be a tricky one to balance. I'm pleased with how I balanced my own energy over the month and to invite my own clients in and start to grow a community has felt exciting, uplifting and very special. To my first "Sea Kin", members of the Wave Wellness community, thank you.
To anchor this physical change, I completed the Christchurch Round the Bays run without walking or stopping. This was a big achievement for me, given some injuries I carry in my lower legs. It was my physical metaphor for the month: when building a business, you don’t stop. You find your Stability and your Respiration, and you keep going. The Wave Wellness CREST (Core, Respiration, Elongation, Stability and Timing) principles are with me in everything I do.

Branching Out: Community & Connection

I’ve learned that a brand doesn't grow in a vacuum; it grows through connection.
Networking: I’ve been busy getting my brochures into local businesses, making real-world connections and catching up over coffee with like minded individuals. When you share and bounce ideas off each other, there's a growth energy in the collective efforts.
Partnerships: I’ve officially signed on to sponsor and contribute to the 2026 Duke Surf Festival, a dream alignment for Wave Wellness. Look out for more on this soon.
Collaboration: I’ve agreed to my first collaborative event with another local business owner - a special evening of "Layers of Calm" (more on that coming very soon!).
Visibility: Stepping out from behind the screen for my first stand at Sol Gatherings was a huge milestone that confirmed that my voice is strongest when I’m connecting with people face-to-face. I truly value looking into another person's eyes and having a wellness conversation.
Rising Higher: Vision & Growth

As the external work expanded, so did the internal depth of my practice.
Specialised attention: I began working with my first private "Personal Tide" session clients, applying the Wave Wellness way to bespoke, one-on-one transformation.
Future Vision: I’m putting the finishing touches on my my first private group retreat, scheduled for next weekend. This has been an act of Elongation—creating the space for deeper immersion.
Professional Growth: Outside of the studio, I've found opportunities to stretch my wings. I also stepped into a new challenge at work by delivering a refresher training course. Using materials developed by others on a tight timeline was a stretch, but it proved to be a valuable lesson: the skills I use on the mat, clarity, calm adaptability, and leadership, are universal and carry over into every part of my life.
Finding the View from the Top
I feel like I've crammed a decade of learning into these 28 days. I’ve realised that "taking off the stabilisers" means an acceleration and I tell you right now, it's a ride I'm really enjoying. It means I’m no longer perched on the branch; I’m choosing my own branches and gaining momentum with every reach.
Here's a heads up - I'm looking for the tallest trees...I mean the big sequoias...and I'm going to find them to reach not only for the highest branches but some of those large outward solid limbs too.
I'm ending February with a full heart, a clear head, and a schedule that finally feels like my own.
I’m ready for the next branch, the next challenge, and the next wave. I'm not just ready, I'm out there actively seeking not waiting.
Thank you for climbing along with me. Your support means so much to me.
I’m currently opening up space for a few more 1:1 (or duo) Personal Tide Sessions and turning my mind to planning my first bookable retreat. If you’d like to be the first to know the details, make sure you're on the mailing list. Sign up here.
