Reflection, Celebration and Stillness

As the view outside of the window shifts into its winter palette, I’ve found that rather be softened by the dwindling light, I've been making my own light shine brighter.
Following on from high energy of California, I've taken some periods of reflection and stillness to then feel more energised and luminous. I liken it to some "fits and bursts". Although this may not sound ideal to some who favour the steady energy, I ask "what is ideal?" To me, this is my ideal right now, it has been an effective way to be high energy, productive and in the action of things and then at the appropriate time, take the energy down a notch to refresh.
A Birthday at Domu
I recently (almost 2 months ago now though!) celebrated my birthday at Domu Retreat in the Abel Tasman. This was a wonderful way to spend a couple of luxurious nights at a "place to land, a place to linger". Sabine and Toby were excellent hosts and in the most caring and intentional way. Our morning yoga practices invited freedom and ease into my body and meant I was keeping my mindful movement alive whilst away. Meeting other guests and sharing in stories and laughter around the shared dining was nourishing. With much of our lives now dominated by digital communications, it's a welcome change to completely unplug and meet eye to eye over shared food.
Feeling grounded with the atmospheric views and in the stillness at the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park was perfect. It was a moment to pause and reflect on the year gone by. The quietude of Domu reminded me that we need those periods of "low tide" to replenish our own internal reserves.

Immersed in the Festival
Following that stillness, the Nelson Yoga Festival was a total immersion in collective energy. Spending the weekend surrounded by fellow movers and teachers was an affirming reminder of why we step onto the mat. I spent my time absorbing new perspectives, refining my own practice, and feeling the strength of various yoga communities.

I was allocated a guest ticket for the event as an assistant for Hamish as he was running a Baddhas and Bandas workshop. Wow...what a workshop it was. The hall filled up, the stage filled up and the outside corridor filled up with people wanting to take part. It was a fantatsic workshop and one that was thoroughly enjoyed and received rave reviews. It was a privilege to support Hamish in his workshop and I travelled back from Nelson with a huge internal glow of happiness, contentment and happiness.

Power in Pink!
The collective energy remained high as we transitioned into our Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser, Power in Pink!
Hosting this event was an absolute joy. We shared a 75-minute Power Vinyasa practice, moving in time to an uplifting soundtrack set against a backdrop of vibrant pink visuals.
Together, our community raised a wonderful $1088 for the foundation.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stepped onto the mat to support this cause.

Sol Gatherings
In May 2026, I returned to Sol Gatherings to set up the Wave Wellness space. It was a pleasure to connect with new faces and share our approach to mindful movement.
The gathering provided a great opportunity to introduce our Morning Tide beginners’ yoga series, a four-week pop-up programme hosted at The Bridge throughout June.

Morning Tide.
It has been a privilege to introduce six new students to the foundational rhythm of Power Vinyasa Yoga through the Morning Tide series. Over the four-week programme, we focused on building structure week by week - anchoring our stability, igniting breath, and balancing strength with ease.
Watching these students develop confidence and cultivate their own internal focus has been incredibly rewarding. The most challenging part of any journey is simply deciding to begin, and the dedication shown by this group to step onto their mat each week has been inspiring.

Reflecting on this season, the shift from the quiet, luxury retreat at Domu to the shared, vibrant energy of the Nelson Yoga Festival and local community events highlights a natural rhythm.
Alternating between periods of internal stillness and high-energy connection mirrors the natural ebb and flow of our practice. Whether cultivating quiet stability during a rainy retreat or igniting strength during the Power in Pink fundraiser, each experience reinforces the value of balancing action with rest to maintain a sustainable, lifelong practice.
See you on the mat,
Lucy
